BACHELOR OF CHRISTIAN STUDIES (B.C.S.) – External Study
The degree of Bachelor of Christian Studies (B.C.S) course is meant to provide Christian professionals and laity with academic skills for an in-depth understanding of Christian faith, history, doctrines and practical dimensions of ministry to interact with neighbors and professional colleagues in their common quest for meaning of life. The program is intended to help a person to integrate one’s studies with one’s life and professional involvement in society. The duration of the course is four years program starting from January to December. The validity of registration is seven years.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
A candidate at the time of admission to the BCS degree course shall fulfill the following requirements:- A holder of Bachelor Degree from a recognized University.
- A candidate should have passed 10th class and cleared matured candidate exam (as per the existing policy of the Senate) with 2 years of ministerial work experience.
- A candidate should have passed Dip.C.S. or Dip.BT with 2 years of ministerial work experience.
REGISTRATION
- The academic year for the B.C.S. course is January to December.
- All the candidates intending to do BCS studies will be registered with the Senate of Serampore College through MCT and the last date for registration with the Senate of Serampore College is 31st October every year prior to commencing the study.
DOCUMENTS REQUIRED ALONG WITH THE REGISTRATION FORM
- Academic certificates or mark sheet copies of academic qualification.
- Certificate of birth registration or other acceptable evidence of date of birth
- The candidate must be ready to supply additional information and references that may be considered desirable in support of his/her application.
- Church membership certificate
- The candidate shall give in writing that he/she is not doing any course under any university/institution at the same time
MEDIUM OF STUDY AND EXAMINATION SHALL BE ENGLISH
Contact Seminar: (Mandatory for all Four Years) Contact seminar shall be arranged thrice in a year by the College and all the registered candidates are required to attend the same without fail at their own expenses. Not attending the Contact Seminars may lead to not permitting to write the examinations.
Duration: The length of BCS degree course is four years starting from January to December. Validity of the registration shall be for seven years. Dip.C.S. Diploma holders will join BCS 3rd year as an upgrader. The validity of registration of Dip.C.S. upgrader shall be four years.
Examination: The Annual Examination will be conducted by Senate of Serampore College during October/November of each year. Each paper is of three hours. The maximum marks for each paper is hundred and covers the subject matter indicated in the syllabus. The student can write minimum six paper and maximum twelve papers.
A candidate shall give an undertaking at the time of registration that he shall abide by all the rules and regulations of the Senate of Serampore College as applicable to the Bachelor of Christian Studies including the decisions of the Senate and its Committee for Academic Administration.
